Job Description
About KODE
KODE Labs is building the operating system for the built world. We're transforming how buildings operate, making them more intelligent, efficient, and sustainable at scale. Since 2017, we've partnered with some of the world's largest real estate portfolios to deliver measurable energy savings and operational excellence. But we're just getting started.
The smart buildings industry needs bold thinking and better solutions. We're here to set the standard: moving fast, building fearlessly, and proving what's possible when technology meets infrastructure. At KODE, results speak louder than titles, and every person drives meaningful impact.
The Opportunity
KODE is growing quickly, and our engineering team needs stronger day-to-day leadership, organization, training, and escalation support as we scale.
We’re looking for an Engineering Operations Manager to be the on-the-ground leader for our engineering team. This person will manage and develop our Engineering Team Leads, keep engineers organized and accountable, serve as the first point of escalation for engineering blockers, and help the team execute projects with more consistency, speed, and quality.
This is the right role for someone who is technically strong, deeply operational, and energized by solving hard problems while also turning those learnings into scalable systems for the whole team.
What You'll Do
Escalation & Technical Support
Serve as the first point of engineering escalation — Help ETLs work through blockers, unclear priorities, technical questions, project issues, or team performance concerns.
Triage engineering issues — Understand the issue, identify what is needed, and either help resolve it directly or route it to the right SME.
Create a clear escalation process — Ensure engineering escalations are raised, documented, routed, and resolved in a consistent way
Engineering Team Leadership
Train and develop engineers — Build training programs, coaching moments, and recurring learning loops to improve the technical strength of the engineering organization.
Promote accountability — Ensure engineering work is accurate, complete, and aligned with KODE standards before it reaches the client or Client Success team.
Grow Engineering Team Leads — Manage and develop Engineering Team Leads so they become stronger technically, more consistent operationally, and more effective at managing their groups of engineers.
Engineering Operations
Improve day-to-day engineering operations — Create simple routines, processes, and expectations that make engineering work more organized, repeatable, and efficient
Own planning and resource readiness — Work with Engineering Team Leads to ensure project scopes are technically sound, required information has been collected, integration paths are understood, and major risks have been identified early.
Keep engineering organized — Ensure engineers and ETLs know what they are working on, what is blocked, what needs attention, and what needs to move faster.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in engineering management, technical operations, in delivery/implementation of smart buildings or a related technical environment.
Experience managing technical teams, team leads, or frontline engineering groups.
Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to coach, hold people accountable, and create structure without micromanaging.
Strong operational instincts: you know how to organize teams, identify bottlenecks, simplify workflows, and keep work moving.
Technical curiosity and the ability to become a smart building expert.
Ability to understand technical issues well enough to triage, ask the right questions, and route issues to the right people.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineers, ETLs, PMs, SMEs, and Delivery leadership.
Strong documentation and process management skills, with the ability to own and maintain engineering documentation, standards, and playbooks.
Preferred
Experience in smart buildings, BMS/BAS, HVAC controls, IoT, integrations, real estate technology, or building operations.
Experience working with implementation, deployment, or delivery teams.
Experience creating training programs, team routines, documentation, checklists, or operating processes.
Experience managing team leads or developing first-time managers.
A practical operator mindset: someone who can manage people, organize work, and jump into problems when needed.
