We are expanding our engineering presence in Romania to establish a founding European squad. Working closely with our engineering hubs in the UK, Canada, and Vietnam, this squad directly owns customer-facing application features for fast-growing international markets.

This role

As our Software Engineer (Junior, Intermediate, Senior, or Staff/Lead), you’ll be working with our founding European squad in Romania, collaborating closely with engineering hubs in the UK, Canada, and Vietnam, and will be instrumental in shaping customer-facing application features for fast-growing international markets across our Employment Operating System (eOS).

Your key focus areas will be

• Delivering high-impact, customer-facing application features across business logic, APIs, user authentication, and interactive workflows for global markets.
• Championing AI-assisted workflow execution—leveraging enterprise tools (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini) with high prompt maturity, critical validation, and architectural rigor.
• Upholding software quality, code defensiveness, zero-trust security practices (OWASP Top 10), and automated testing standards.
• Executing autonomously in a 100% remote, asynchronous environment across distributed global squads.

This will include

• End-to-End Feature Ownership: Driving features from initial product scoping and technical design through implementation, automated testing, code review, and production deployment.
• Modern Stack Development: Building and maintaining scalable backend services and frontend user interfaces using Ruby on Rails, React/TypeScript, and .NET Core, backed by PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis.
• AI-Assisted Workflow Execution: Leveraging AI agents for boilerplate generation, test drafting, and refactoring while applying human skepticism and domain knowledge to validate every output.
• Application Quality & Security: Ensuring code defensiveness, robust error handling, and zero-trust security practices (OWASP Top 10) in partnership with dedicated DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure teams.
• Technical Collaboration: Breaking down ambiguous business requirements into testable tasks and participating actively in peer code reviews and architectural discussions.

• Experience Across Levels: Professional software engineering experience aligned with our leveling criteria: Junior (1–3 years), Intermediate (3–7 years), Senior (7–15 years), or Staff/Lead (15+ years or proven multi-team technical leadership).
• Strong Technical Foundation: Solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, data structures, relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis), RESTful API design, and web architecture.
• Modern Stack Flexibility: Hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails, React.js / TypeScript, or .NET Core / C#—or transferable proficiency in Java, Node.js, Python, or Go with React/Angular, alongside a genuine willingness to work across Rails and .NET.
• Ownership & Systems Thinking: Direct accountability for past deliverables ("I built", "I owned"), understanding end-to-end user impact, and reasoning through concurrency and edge cases.
• Output Validation & Skepticism: Rigorous automated testing strategies, strong debugging proficiency, and critical skepticism toward code (especially AI-generated code).
• Asynchronous Communication: Clear, empathetic written communication (Jira, Slack, Confluence) to define problems and collaborate effectively across distributed time zones.

Important Compensation Note:

Please note that the salary ranges listed above serve as a general guide across our engineering tiers. We operate structured pay bands mapped to internal level steps (Junior L1 through Staff L4), with exact placement determined through our technical evaluation and leveling process during interviews. To ensure mutual alignment from the outset, we ask all applicants to complete the salary expectation question on the application form in Monthly NET RON.
