How We Build: One Problem, One Engineer

At Employment Hero, we're changing how software gets built.

With AI-powered development and coding agents, our Engineers own problems end-to-end, rather than simply completing assigned coding tasks.

We work with a One Problem, One Engineer approach: understand the problem, design the solution, build the smallest working version, deploy it to production and continuously improve it.

You'll have the autonomy to make technical decisions, the tools to move faster and the opportunity to deliver meaningful product impact.

The Role

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you'll build and deliver end-to-end product features across our Employment Operating System, creating experiences that make a real difference for millions of users. We're looking for Software Engineers who are confident working across the full stack, combining technical excellence with product thinking, independent problem-solving and an AI-first mindset.

What you'll do:

• Own problems end-to-end: Take product features from understanding customer needs and designing solutions through to development, testing and production deployment.
• Build across the stack: Develop scalable backend services, APIs and intuitive frontend experiences to deliver complete product solutions.
• Solve complex challenges: Improve application performance, reliability, scalability and user experience.
• Build with AI: Leverage AI coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Make smart trade-offs: Balance speed, quality and technical complexity to deliver practical solutions that create customer value.
• Collaborate and contribute: Partner with Product, Design and Engineering teams, review code and share knowledge to raise the bar across your squad.

What We're Looking For

• Senior-level engineering expertise: Typically 8+ years in software development, but we value demonstrated capability over years of experience.
• Strong backend development experience: Proficient in at least one backend language, such as Python, Java, PHP, Ruby, JavaScript/TypeScript or similar.
• Fullstack capability: Proven experience building and delivering production web applications across both backend and frontend.
• Frontend fundamentals: Comfortable with JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS and modern frontend development. No specific frontend framework is required.
• Solid engineering fundamentals: Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, relational databases, system design, automated testing and software engineering best practices.
• End-to-end ownership: Able to independently solve complex problems, make sound technical decisions and deliver production-ready solutions across the stack.
• AI-first mindset: Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools and eager to leverage coding agents to improve how software is built.
• Product thinking: Focused on understanding customer needs and delivering meaningful outcomes, not just writing code.
• Strong collaboration: Good written and spoken English, a proactive approach and the ability to thrive in a global, remote-first team.

We primarily build our applications using Ruby. Ruby experience isn't required, and we'll support you in developing the necessary skills when you join.
